Why is it so important to moisturise your skin?

Along with daily cleansing, moisturising is an essential part of taking care of your skin. And not only for the face, but for the whole body. Remember that the skin is the largest organ that we have and it protects our body from all aggressive external agents.

Moisturising is very important in making sure that the skin can carry out that protective function properly, because when it is hydrated, it will be stronger, more flexible and healthier, and it will be able to defend us much better and protect our body perfectly. So it’s not just a question of aesthetics, but also of health.

As you know, the human body is 70% water, so you can imagine the vital importance of this element for the health of our cells and our body. That is why both the skin and the body need a constant level of hydration. As we get older, it is even more important to make sure our skin is hydrated. Here´s how to make your skin healthier and delay the onset of dryness, wrinkles, sagging and other signs of premature cell aging.

Hydrate internally: there is no point using the best moisturiser on the market if we do not hydrate on the inside. How do we do that? By drinking 7 to 8 glasses of water a day and by eating a balanced diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, broths and infusions.

Hydrate externally: it is very important that you choose a moisturiser that suits your skin type and condition, and to apply it every morning and night without exception. Pay attention to the demands of your skin, which may change with the seasons, hormonal changes and periods of stress, becoming more dehydrated or more oily, which means you will have to change your moisturiser to maintain optimal water levels.

Whether we´re talking about the face or body, a good tip to seal in the skin´s hydration is to leave your skin still slightly damp when you get out of the shower, and to apply a natural essential oil. Then, dry yourself properly and apply your body and face moisturisers. This will repair the hydrolipidic film of your skin. If you do not have an essential oil to hand, try moisturising masks.

Tobacco, alcohol, air conditioning, central heating, the wind, cold and sun dry out our skin excessively, so avoid them as much as possible, and remember to moisturise, rehydrate and drink lots of water in extreme environmental conditions.
