Serum, toner, exfoliator, cream, sunscreen, eye contour, cleanser… how many skin care products do you have on your vanity table? Surely, a lot, and you must have wondered whether you are using them in the correct order. We will explain in detail the steps that should be included in your daily skin care routine for your face.
Make-up remover
If you are wearing make-up, this should be the first step in your routine. Choose your make-up remover considering your skin type, your make-up type, the area and your preferred textures.
Cleanser
Cleansing is the basis for every face care routine. With the wrong cleansing, no moisturiser or foundation will do any good. You should do it in the morning and at night, no matter if you have make-up on, or if you went out or not. And even if you are feeling lazy. You will be grateful with the years. The skin gets very dirty with external agents and with its own excess sebum. Besides, a cleanser helps to remove any remaining trace of the make-up remover. Choose your cleanser according to your skin type.
Exfoliator and face mask
They are both products we do not use on a daily basis, but if you include them in your weekly routine, this should be the time to use them. If you are going to apply both, the order should be: first the exfoliator, and then the mask.
Toner
This is the third step, and although we sometimes fail to give it the importance that we should, it plays a key role. The toner restores the pH balance of the skin after cleansing, refreshes the skin, reduces pores, and prepares it for the next step.
Eye contour product
As the eye area is not usually treated with serum, oil or facial cream, we recommend taking this step now. This way, we limit the area by applying our eye care product. Wait for the product to be well absorbed before applying any make-up.
Face oil
Though not a must-have, face oils are increasingly more common. As they generally act at the lymphatic level, on many occasions it is best to apply it before the serum.
Serum
The serum must always be applied before the moisturising cream. Thanks to its concentration of ingredients and texture, it penetrates the innermost layers of the skin.
Moisturising cream
Together with cleansing, this is an essential step. Apply the moisturiser after the serum, and do not forget your neck and chest.
Sunscreen
If your facial cream does not include a sun protection factor, you should use one after applying the facial cream. Some sunscreens make the skin texture more uniform and work perfectly as a make-up primer.
Of course, you do not need to use all the products on the list, but now you have a guide on how to apply the ones you wish in the right order. Remember that it is best to repeat at least the cleansing, serum application and moisturising steps at night as well.
